The project Scroll aims to create a fast track method and curricula to provide young NEET with new digital skills as a way of reintegrating them in education, employment and training.
The project is part of a long term effort of the partners to effectively tackle the complex and challenging integration of NEET young.
During the last 4 years and many successfully implemented projects in the European and national level we had the opportunity to understand more in depth the NEET challenge.
Efforts have been made all around Europe in all levels from EU to governmental to NGO initiatives to tackle the challenge and to lower the numbers (percentage) of NEET young people in Europe.
According to Eurostat data released in 2018 17.2 % of the 20-34 olds in the EU in 2017 were neither in employment nor in education and training ('NEETs'). With that percentage reaching up to 25 -30 % in Greece, Italy, Spain and countries of the Western Balkans.
While the percentage of young NEET is very high in the countries we have been working so far, there seems to be a counter trend which presents an opportunity for us to capitalize on. In the region of south east Europe an unprecedented growth of tech companies is observed, offering services from development, design, digital marketing, design, game development and many more.
A worrying observation is that young people NEET, tend to live in higher isolation from their peers. Besides the feeling of depression and anxiety they face there is a complete lack of participation in the societal / political realm which also bears feeling of anger, frustration and hopelessness.
These characteristics make NEET youngsters vulnerable to radicalization and recruitment in radical groups (religious, political and ethnic groups).
The motivation for this project starts from the needs of these young people to have access to educational opportunities and to engage with other young people and the society in general.
We define 2 levels of objectives, overall and specific.
AIM OF THE PROJECT:
